A Handcrafted Life
My name is Bryn Russell. I have a passion for crafting tools and sculptures that tell a story. My work ranges from elegant porcelain teapots, to rough forged axes, to scrap-built pirate ships in the Sea of Japan. My foundation is rooted in a bachelors degree in design engineering from The Colorado School of Mines. I specialize in forging, welding, casting, ceramics, woodwork and free-form fabrication.
Since the age of twelve, I’ve found deep meaning and passion in this work. I’ve traveled around the world making and using tools to keep myself alive and cross cultural barriers. My adventures are wide ranging: I designed and built budget desks for impoverished children in Nepal. I lived on a diet of fish and fruit with a bamboo spear in a small fishing village in Japan. I even confronted banditos in Costa Rica at (custom) machete-point after they had robbed me, effectively persuading the return of my belongings. In all circumstances, I love to create and I love to tell a good story.
